OO says “uh”
In 'blood' and 'flood', OO makes the short “uh” sound like in 'cup'.
How this rule works
The vowel team OO usually says “oo” as in 'moon' or as in 'book', but in the two words 'blood' and 'flood' it makes the “uh” sound instead. These are exceptions to memorize.
